How to use this tool

Crop a photo to the shape you need

Choose Image opens a local JPG, PNG or WebP. Choose 1:1 for a square profile picture, 4:3 for a landscape crop or 9:16 for a vertical image. Free lets you choose your own shape. Drag the selection to keep the subject inside it, and use the corner handles to adjust the crop.

Preview before downloading

Select Crop Image to create a separate preview, then choose Download Cropped Image. The download is a PNG, including when you start with a JPG. The original file on your device is unchanged. Reset starts the selection again; New Image opens another photo.

Example: a square profile picture

For a 1200 × 800 photo, choose 1:1 and move the square around the subject. The downloaded width and height will be equal. The displayed crop coordinates describe the on-screen preview; the saved crop is taken from the corresponding area of the original image.

Choose cropping or resizing

Cropping removes the outer part of a picture. It does not stretch the subject or add missing detail. For a fixed pixel size, text, layers or a different download format, open the photo editor. Before printing, check the cropped image in the print size calculator.

Common questions

Are my photos uploaded?

The crop itself runs in your browser. Your chosen image is not sent to a server by the cropping tool. Advertising and analytics are separate website services.

Why is the PNG larger than my original JPG?

PNG and JPG store image data differently. Cropping fewer pixels does not guarantee a smaller file. Use the photo editor to export JPG or WebP if a smaller download matters.
